1 tablespoon saffron latte powder (less if you are using sweetened milk)

8 ounces steamed milk of choice (we like almond)


1 | Pour the milk and saffron latte powder into a high speed blender.

2 | Whisk milk and powder together with an aerolatte.

3 | Blend and serve.

Blood building…why should I? Wheatgrass junkies are sometimes mocked and sometimes lauded. I am a wheatgrass believer and attempt to regularly have a shot, 1 oz., of wheatgrass a day. This usually means I get about 3 to 4 shots in a week. That is on top of my almost daily juice that I make using my Omega Vert VRT350 Juicer, which I am obsessed with but I’ll write about soon!

Health Benefits
With a 70% chlorophyll composition, the biggest benefit of wheatgrass seems to be that is highly alkaline and cleansing. It’s the chlorophyll that helps rid the body of toxins, strengthens immunity and improves the micro-flora ecology of the digestive tract. However, there are many claims about the health benefits of wheatgrass although actual scientific evidence is limited to a couple of small studies. In one study, wheatgrass was shown to lessen symptoms of ulcerative colitis (a form of inflammatory bowel disease), and thus sometimes purported to help improve digestion. Other studies have shown that wheatgrass may reduce some of the negative side effects of chemotherapy and improve blood circulation and composition. I choose to favor the chances it is beneficial as I don’t have any allergies to it and feel more energetic and happy to be putting more alkaline creating nutrients in my body. Oh, and my skin has a healthier glow when I get a high dose daily raw nutrients.

More about chlorophyll
The chlorophyll molecule in wheatgrass is similar to the hemoglobin molecule in the blood of humans. The single dissimilarity would be that the central aspect in hemoglobin is iron and in chlorophyll it is magnesium. For this inherent similarity, the body can certainly transform chlorophyll into hemoglobin enhancing the red blood cells count along with the blood’s ability to deliver oxygen along with other nutrients towards the body’s cells. Chlorophyll can stimulate the enzyme systems, promote higher metabolic process and release free oxygen, obliterate toxic carbon dioxide, normalize blood pressure level through dilating the blood pathways and build red blood cells rapidly. There are no clinical trials to support this but wheatgrass is also purported to supply more oxygen, through chlorophyll, to cancer cells and therefore helps in fighting cancer.

Wheatgrass juice is available at your local farmer market or frozen in cubes at Whole Foods and other grocery stores and co-ops.  You can place the frozen cubes in a bowl of warm water to defrost.  Then you can simply drink it as a shot.  Now, that’s if you can take the taste! It’s not exactly delightful although after a while it becomes an acquired taste and at 1 oz. it’s easy”ish” to get down. If you can’t take the grassy, green tea-like taste, try adding it to unsweetened pineapple juice or you can toss the cubes in your favorite juice or smoothie before blending.
